Applefest
Applefest is an ‘Apple-tastic’ free event being brought to you by GoCreate for autumn 2024.
Being hosted at Orchard Shopping Centre, the main event will take place between 11am and 5pm on Saturday, 19th October, bringing Old Market Square/Pig Market to life with trails, workshops, apple-themed activities, stalls/demos, live music, face painting, and storytelling. The event will culminate with a LED light trail and the planting of an apple tree by the Mayor of Taunton.
Here is the programme for the day*:
Apple Trail – 11am to 5pm – an apple fact quiz, taking you on a trail around the centre. Pick up your quiz sheet from participating stores and activated spaces
Face Painting – 11am to 3pm – the aim is in the name!
Stalls & demos – 11am to 5pm – including woodturning by Jeremy Briggs (12pm to 2pm), and Go Create gallery
Apple Design & Print – 11am to 12noon; 1pm to 2pm; 3pm to 4pm – printing with press-print blocks/apples – yours to take away when dry
Apple Pressing – 12pm to 3pm – bring along your own apples for juicing!
Apple-tastic Storytelling – 11am & 1pm – Michael Loader will present stories around an apple theme, two show times
Live Street Music (in Pied Piper fashion) – late morning/midday – Daniel Pogorzelski performing in open spaces/the High Street and Orchard Shopping Centre
LED light trail/apple tree planting – from 4pm – 200+ tealights being placed by visitors, lining the way to the apple tree planting site
Somerset Opera finale – 3pm to 5pm – Helena Payne singing six arias to end the day
Apple FM – 11am to 5pm – live broadcast
Applefest celebrates creativity, the renown of Somerset for its apples, and the season of harvesting. This is a fun, free, and fact-finding day out for all the family. We hope to see you there.
